Rules of Conduct for ShadowCon
AKA: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
Rules! Every group has 'em! Ya'll need to know what they are. We need to be sure we have 'em written down to cover the bases. So, without further ado - Please familiarize yourselves with the following BEFORE you register. Because by registering and paying for ShadowCon, you are acknowledging you have read and agree to follow the rules as stated below.
"Be excellent to each other. And... party on, dudes!" Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures, 1989
As an attendee of ShadowCon (hereafter referred to as ShadowCon, Con, or the Convention), you agree to follow these Rules of Conduct during your entire time at the Convention. Basically, you may not do anything that is illegal, against hotel rules, or overly disruptive to guests or staff. While that ought to be enough, we include the following to provide more guidance for those who need it spelled out.
-
You must wear your membership badge at all times to be admitted to any Convention function. Con Security will be looking for badges on everybody. If you’re old enough to have a driver’s license, then you can roam the halls of the Convention by yourself and we expect that you’re old enough to behave and follow the Convention policies, or suffer the consequences if you get busted. If you lose your badge, you will have to get a replacement badge, and we require proof of the original purchase to replace your badge, or you have to pay entry again. You cannot give, sell, or transfer in any way, your badge to anyone else.
-
Children at ShadowCon. Legal minors (defined as anyone under the age of 18 as of the start of the Convention) MUST be in attendance with a parent or legal guardian. You cannot drop off a minor and leave them to attend the convention. You may sit in the lobby without having to pay to attend, but should you decide to wander and see the sights, you will have to pay for a badge at that time; but sitting in the lobby is free while you wait for your minors to attend.
-
Possession of, or providing, alcoholic beverages by anyone under 21 years of age is grounds for expulsion from the convention without a refund. Them's the LAWS y'all, and that's above our paygrade for changing - so just follow them, 'k?
-
Neither ShadowCon, nor its staff and personnel, are responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged property, or for injuries sustained during the course of the Convention. That said, if you lose something (or if you find something) come to the Registration Desk OR give it to any of our MARKED Con Security staff. All Con Staff and Security will have badges that name them as such.
-
Announced events and guests are subject to change and/or cancellation without notice. Every effort will be made to announce any changes via the website and postings at the registration desk and panel rooms, but changes happen. Refunds are not offered because a guest or event of the con has to cancel.
-
We reserve the right to ask you to leave the Convention and refuse to refund your membership money if you are behaving – in technical terms – like a jerk. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated and can be grounds for immediate removal from site by Con Security with no re-admission. If people tell you “NO,” your business with them is done. If you continue to attempt to have contact with those people, you may be removed from the premises and your admission revoked. Examples of harassment include, but are not limited to: physical or verbal threats, stalking, pushing, shoving or use of physical force, any behavior that creates a disturbance - is disruptive or dangerous, as well as lewd, or generally offensive behavior or language, using sexually explicit or offensive language or conduct, obscene gestures, racial, religious or ethnic slurs.
-
CosPlayers and Costumers Notice: Please note that while ShadowCon respects the artistic ability and craftiness of your presentations, all efforts to abide by local, state, and federal laws and regulations will have to be followed regarding nudity. We do not restrict our general admission to ShadowCon, as such minors are always in attendance. All attendees and guests are required to follow these laws and maintain a level of coverage to satisfy them. We want to avoid any phone calls resulting in enforcers of such laws being called to remove you from our convention. Please don't make that version of "No Costume" your choice of removal from ShadowCon.
-
Weapons or weaponlike objects. All items worn or carried from the moment of entry to the con until the closing will be required to be peace-tied by a member of Con Staff or Con Security. Failure to leave such items peace-tied will result in removal from Con with no refund. No clowning around or showing off with weapons or weaponlike objects in the common areas. Any item used in an offensive manner will be confiscated and may become property of the Con until closing on Sunday. We expect you to use good judgment!
-
NO CAMPING IN THE HALLS OR LOBBY! If you are found sleeping in any area of the hotel outside of a room, you will be asked to go to your hotel room. If you do not have a room, hotel staff, Con Staff, or Con Security will be forced to ask you to leave. You are expected to have a place to sleep that is not the Con floor or public areas.
-
Please do not abuse our hotels or convention facilities. This includes putting signs and decorations on walls, stalls, ceilings, and floors. If you have something you wish to post - check with the registration desk to find out any rules regarding such things. If you cause damage to a hotel or convention property, or other property not belonging to you, you can lose your ShadowCon badge and forfeit your con attendance. You will also be personally responsible for any legal or financial burdens to replace or repair the damaged property. Please don’t abuse the facilities or property of others; we’d kinda like to do this again - probably at the same location even. PS - we do NOT allow food, drink, or photography/videography in our Dealer Room. Those folks are working hard for the goods they are offering. Be respectful.
-
ShadowCon reserves the right to revoke or suspend attendance badges. If you break a Convention rule, you may be barred from the Convention, either for several hours (to sober up, perhaps) or for the rest of the Convention. If you break the law – city, state, or federal – you may be arrested.
